During this period the fetus begins to develop more rapidly. Spinal cords form, and they are starting to look like miniature dogs. Boo has become more affectionate and wanting to spend more time with us she is a little off her food and probably having some morning sickness
She has started to try and find somewhere to have the puppies and keeps squeezing herself through gap inside fence. So, we will be setting up the whelping area soon.
Day by day puppy development
Day 36+: The fetus continues to grow and develop, and your dog's belly will enlarge. The puppies’ organs have begun to form at this stage and will now be known as a fetus. The weight of the fetus will dramatically increase in weight at this time up to as much as 75 percent.
There is less risk of developmental issues at this stage, but you should continue to use caution when it comes to rough play and strenuous exercise.
Day 40: Claws take shape
Day 42 is where it all starts to speed up, with your dog entering the third stage of gestation. This is also the final stage, and it’s where the fetus starts to look like a dog – the skeleton starts to become solid, claws grow and the weight gain increases.
Day 45: Coat and skeleton starts to form. Vets recommend that the female gets wormed at this point to avoid passing parasites on to the
Boos weight has gone up around 2kg in the past two weeks and her appetite has also we are now feeding her a couple times a day with a bowl of kibble available for her to graze on. She is having full Lyka bowls now and really enjoying it. It is very important to increase Boo protein intake, as well as more calories as the puppies grow at a very fast rate now.
Boo has been wormed and we have gone back to vets for a checkup and all the puppies are developing lovely their spines were visible on the screen and our timing seems to be spot on.
Next stop is an Xray at 8 weeks to determine how many puppies we should be expecting.
